Wool & Honey Blocked
I finally got around to blocking my beloved Wool & Honey sweater, and.. well, it didn’t change much!
Ok, it did soften and relax the stitches, as you can clearly see in the collar and shoulder area (above). But, since this entire sweater is knit in garter stitch, it doesn’t really change form much unless you’re planning to stretch it out. As this sweater was already way larger than I wanted (and in the XS size no less) I chose not to stretch it out even more.
Once I finished this pattern (knit in LOFT by Brooklyn Tween in Embers) I tried it on and was pretty bummed out how boxy it was on me. This pattern is meant to be a bit on the wider side, but it looked like a tent on me. With that in mind, I decided to block it in hot water in hopes that maybe, just maybe it would shrink up just a bit (it didn’t).
After soaking it in hot water for 30 minutes with just a splash of wool wash (I use the delicate wash by Wrapture) and gently squeezing the water out, I laid it flat on my blocking tiles but decided not to pin it. I usually ALWAYS pin sweaters when I block, but this was already looking larger than I wanted, and I was curious to see if it would shrink up some if left alone.
Once it dried (about 2 days to get all the moisture out), you could see how soft and relaxed the stitches got. Unfortunately, it didn’t shrink at all, but it did fit me a lot better. When I first tried it on before blocking, it looked like I had wings on my back with the way it puckered under my shoulder blades. After blocking, it lays flat and is a much more relaxed fit. While I’m still not in love with just how wide this sweater is, it’s ridiculously comfortable and still pretty damn cute.
