July 2020 KnitCrate Review

July 2020 KnitCrate

July 2020: Color Splash

I’ll be honest, when I saw the previews for July’s theme, I was really hoping for the vibrant pink or purple. As is the way of the world, the one I wanted least is, unsurprisingly, the one I got. That being said, the gray is beautiful and dynamic, even for a neutral. It’s multi-toned and ridiculously soft.

This month KnitCrate worked in collaboration with Michele Costa of Stitch & Hustle to design both the yarn and the colors. I received two skeins of URU.YARN Cotton Basic in the colorway Pavement. This yarn is 100% Unmercerized Organic Pima Cotton in a DK weight, with each skein at 275 yards (550 yards total).

This multi-tonal yarn is 3-ply making it soft and breathable.

Confession: I keep squishing this yarn. It’s so soft and feels so luxurious for cotton. I’m so used to cotton that you use for dishcloths or heavy-duty knitwear, but this feels delicate and lovely. The different tones I keep picking up also mean that the stitch definition is sure to be beautiful. This is really what I love about this subscription - there’s no way I could have gotten this level of quality yarn for the same price at the store.

Next up are the patterns. This month actually came with a bunch of patterns, both in the booklet that came in the box as well as more that you can download. Here’s a preview of the ones in the book:

Besides the shawl and sock patterns, there are bonus patterns for beanies, tops, shawlettes, and more.

Next up is the extra gift! This month we get a free Tunisian crochet hook in size J. This comes with a long cord to hold all the extra stitches, as Tunisian crochet is like a combination of crocheting and knitting. I’ve never tried it, but I might now that I’ve got this hook.

Another month that I’m completely impressed with. Also, I just found out that you can apparently choose which colorway you get before they send them out. I do wish I’d gotten the Stardust (purple) this month, so it’s good to know I can customize a bit in the future.

Shameless plug: If you think you might want to try one out, feel free to use my discount code for a $5 box! You’ll also be helping me get a discount on my next box, so it’s really just a win-win here. 😜
