Felix Pullover

A wonderfully chunky knit

I don’t know about you, but the Felix Pullover by Amy Christoffers has been on my to-knit list for years now. It’s a relatively simple top-down raglan sweater, but it wins hearts with its eyelet increases and huge gauge (14 sts/4in!). The toughest thing here is just having an aran weight yarn on hand to use for a sweater, but I finally got my hands on some Soft Donegal from Studio Donegal. Technically it’s a worsted weight, but it’s on the heavier side so meeting gauge was no problem.

Soft Donegal

This colorway is aptly named Bar Fight and has a wild array of brightly-colored tweedy bits in it, making this a fun yarn to knit up.

A word of warning: I’m not sure if it was the yarn itself or where it was housed in the yarn store, but this yarn gave me quite an allergic reaction while working with it. Once I finished the sweater, I soaked it overnight, rinsed it out, and then soaked it again the next day before letting it completely dry. I’ve worn this sweater for a few hours at a time twice no with no issues, so I’m hoping any of the offending dust or hay bits have been washed out.

When I tell you this knit flew, that is no exaggeration. Worsted/aran weight yarn with US 10 needles means you’ll have a sweater in no time. The only modification I made was to wait until about halfway down the sleeve before starting the decreases, and then more rapidly decreasing at that point so it wasn’t such a tight fit on my arms.

Sleeve modification

The sleeves seemed a bit small, so I delayed the decreases to ensure enough room for my upper arm.

All in all, I loved this pattern and am considering knitting it again in a softer yarn, maybe in a size up. For reference, I knit size 1 and have a 34” bust.
