Magnolia Summer

Magnolia Summer Top knit in Rowan Felted Tweed

A truly beautiful design

If you’re looking for a beautifully detailed summer top, look no further than the Magnolia Summer by Camilla Vad. It’s a top-down yoke design, with increases spread out in a way that I feel makes for a beautiful fit (at least for me). Once you get to the bottom portion, the lace is easy to follow and absolutely gorgeous in execution. I will note that there’s a few errors in the pattern, but they’re easy enough to figure out and worth the final product.

If I had one complaint with this final project, it would simply be the yarn I chose, which is completely my own fault. For this version, I used Rowan Felted Tweed in the color 207 Bottle Green. I absolutely love the color, but this yarn is so incredibly itchy — even after several washes. I still tolerate it because I absolutely love the fit and overall look of this garment, but I don’t think I’ll ever use this yarn again.

Lace Detail

The lace motif in this design looks much more complex than it actually is to knit, and, paired with twisted rib, looks so nice once finished.

Using Rowan Felted Tweed, plus this being a lace knit, blocking is an absolute must (as it should always be!). You can see how scrunched up it looks before blocking, and the lace looks so much messier until a proper soak and flat lay.

After Blocking

You can see how significant the change is before and after blocking this design. Don’t forget this step!

Final Takeaways

I love this top so much. It’s the perfect fit and the perfect color, just not the perfect yarn. I’ll continue to wear it with a cami underneath, but will probably re-knit this with a different yarn so I can wear this in the warmer months. Either way, I highly recommend this pattern!
