The Perfect Holiday Knitting Patterns for Yarn Advents
DO you love yarn advents as much as I do?
If you’re reading this, then I have a sneaky suspicion the answer is yes. Every year I say I don’t need any more yarn, but then the advent marketing hits and I just can’t help myself. So many cute options — Self-striping! Minis! Christmas-movie themed! Mystery skeins! I love them all.
But then the yarn comes and you realize that you now have a very specific yarn that really only looks good in very specific uses. I spent some time thinking about how best I wanted to use this special yarn, and I came up with two great patterns (well, 3 technically, but the third is a bonus for you DK weight yarn lovers).
The Siroc Sock design came about as a way to bust my sock stash, especially my leftover advent self-striping sock yarn from years past. I wanted a motif that would not only play nicely with the horizontal striping, but would also add a bit of vertical detailing for visual interest. This is achieved with simple 1/2 left and right cross cables that are enjoyable to knit and work up fast!
Siroc is derived from the word sirocco, meaning a hot, dusty wind that blows across the Mediterranean coast. This wind is so powerful that it creates ripples in the sand. This ripple effect is mimicked in this sock pattern, created by the cabling technique.
This pattern has two heel options, the Shadow Wrap or Afterthought Heel, based on your preference and also includes both charted and written instructions.
I love decorating for the holidays, and the Trim the Tree Socks were inspired by my love of big, bright, colorful string lights. This cuff-down sock pattern features a staggered light motif that uses an alternating background meant to mimic the layers of a tree.
Whether you enjoy using all the colored lights, or prefer to use a more traditional palette, these socks will make you feel festive all season long without even needing to decorate. This pattern only ever uses two colors at a time, so this is a fun knit that works up quickly!

This seamless infinity cowl pattern starts with a provisional cast-on and then moves right to the charted colorwork pattern. You will follow the chart until your desired length, slip half the stitches to give it a twist, and then join the ends of the knitted tube together using the Kitchener stitch.
