June 2020 KnitCrate Review
So I’m a little behind here… It’s mid-August and I’m just now writing my review for June’s KnitCrate, but better late than never! I think most of you can agree with me that 2020 has been a doozy, and some days my motivation to write about anything is super low. I’ve been keeping busy with a number of different crafty hobbies, but my documentation of said hobbies has been seriously lacking. I’m going to try to be better! So with that in mind, let’s talk about some yarn!
June 2020: Getaway
This title couldn’t be more appropriate for this shitshow of a year. It’s a beautiful summer and with the pandemic in full force, all my travel plans have been halted. Getting this in the mail made me brought both pangs of sadness but also reminders of enjoyable past getaways, and from the hope of summer getaways to come. This month’s theme is all about sensory delights and the beautiful hues you discover while you’re out and about adventuring. At least I can live vicariously through my yarn.
I received 2 skeins of Audine Wools Interlock (joint collaboration from KnitCrate and TL Crafts) in the colorway Haze, a soft multi-tones lavender with hints of gray. I like the fact that it’s not over-the-top purple, and it almost feels like a neutral with how soft and airy the color lays on the fiber. The yarn is a blend of 34% Cotton, 19% Lyocell, and 11% Nylon, and is an interlock twist yarn, which gives it a little extra give and elasticity while still being extremely soft to the touch. Each skein is sport weight at 351 yards, so I got a total of 702 yards in this month’s box.

One thing I really like about KnitCrate is that they really send you a whole kit, not just the yarn. Each month they also send you recommended patterns, which include at least one knit pattern and one crochet pattern. This month’s pattern include a knit tote bag with some fun stitch detailing and a Tunisian crochet getaway shawl.
I’m more of a knitter than a crocheter (my deep dive into crocheting was a DIY cactus kit where I completed 1 of 3, but that’s for another time…) so I might use the tote bag pattern. It’s actually pretty cute, I just think I might want to use this yarn on something a little nicer, or at least, something I can wear. I could see this on another version of the Anker’s Summer Shirt; the variations in the purple would look absolutely lovely on such a clean pattern.
Last but not least, the fun gift for this month is a set of multi-colored pins. I actually appreciate this as I’m brutal on my tools and at least half of the pins in my pin-cushion are bent and completely unusable, but I refuse to throw them out because I need more pins. Now maybe I can stop being such a pin hoarder! 😂
June 2020 extra
Let’s face it, we’re always bending or losing needles, so this is never a bad thing to get.
All in all, I’m actually pretty happy so far with my KnitCrate. The first month I was very open-minded since I only spent $5, but this month I spent the normal amount of $24.99 so I was more critical. Honestly, I’m pretty impressed with the quality and amount of yarn + patterns you get for the price. The fact that they do so many in-house collaborations I think really allows for a lower cost without feeling like you’re getting bargain yarn. So, at least for now, I’m officially a KnitCrate fan and subscriber!
